Digital printing opens up a scenario with which all of today’s label and packaging printers have to deal. In the first edition of our special “Digital Printing today” 2017 the following articles inform you about the latest trends in digital printing: "Digital printing perspectives from two global brand owners" and "Inline Digital Printing creates focused marketing opportunities".
1. Digital printing perspectives from two global brand owners
Mars and Nestlé, two of the world’s leading food manufacturers, have explored the challenges of moving packaging print into the digital age. Alvise Cavallari of Nestlé and Jan Duffhues of Mars provided an overview of their efforts and the state of the technology at the “Digital Print for Packaging” conference in Berlin on 6th December 2016. They reported on how their companies started with digital print and what still needs to be done to make digital printing a serious supplement to conventional print processes.
2. Inline Digital Printing creates focused marketing opportunities
The UK-based company DataLase has introduced Inline Digital Printing (IDP) that goes beyond the traditional product coding or laser marking of products and packaging. Using laser reactive colour change pigment technology to digitally print onto a variety of different substrates. Products and packaging printed using this technology can be used to tailor marketing campaigns and target consumers both before and during their purchasing decision.
