Digital printing opens up a perspective, with which all today’s label and packaging printers have to deal. In the second edition of our special "Digital Printing today" 2017 these articles - among others - inform you about the latest trends in digital printing: “Message on a bottle - Will direct container printing open up new market opportunities?” by Rob Haak and “ Digital printing on corrugated board is at the starting gate - A closer look on new advances in digital corrugated printing” by Dieter Finna.
1. Message on a bottle
In the last couple of years we have witnessed a strong growth in industrial inkjet printing in the interior decoration markets as well as in label and package printing. However, new implementations of this technology takes it right into the production lines. An example for this is the direct decoration for PET bottles. One such device has already been installed at Martens Brouwerij in Belgium.
2. ERA Digital Forum discussed the status of the industrial use of digital printing
In late June, the European Rotogravure Association (ERA) met to discuss the status of digital printing and the potential impacts it may have on the established printing industry. As the leading international organization of the gravure industry, members are companies from within Europe. With digital making inroads daily, all are watching warily as they perceive it as something between an opportunity and a threat.
3. Digital printing on corrugated board is at the starting gate
One of the focal points of this year’s Corrugated & Carton Exhibition, held in Munich from 21 to 23 March, was digital printing on corrugated board, both in preprint and postprint applications. The latest developments of the single-pass Inkjet digital printing systems were the main points of interest. The fair, which was attended by more than 2,100 visitors, gave a broad overview of how corrugated board printing has developed and what new developments are pending.
4. A long overdue step
Gathered together during a press conference in July 2017, Bobst surprised the representatives of the international trade press with the following news: The Swiss manufacturer of equipment for packaging and label printers together with the start-up company Radex established the joint venture Mouvent. And even more, they also expressed their intention to further develop this new company into a competence centre for digital printing for Bobst. With regard to the previous activities in the field of digital printing, this is not only a reasonable but also a necessary measure.
